Keeping Up With Kimber - 3 Weeks Old

 Isn't she just beautiful?!!!

On Wednesday, Kimber had her two week check-up (more like 2 1/2 week). She is doing wonderful!! She is back up to her birth weight..actually a little over at 9 lbs 4 ounces and 21.5 inches long with her head measuring at 15 inches. Over the weekend she broke out on her face so we asked the doctor about it. She said that since she has so much hair that the bumps are caused by her hair being more oily. To solve the issue we have to wash her hair everyday but not give her a bath everyday because that would cause her to have flaky dry skin. She also has a clogged tear duct in her right eye. Other than those two things she is developing perfectly. At her two month check-up she will get her shots (not looking forward to that) and they will start charting her growth. At this appointment, they just want to make sure she reached her birth weight.

She is still wearing size one diapers and we prefer Pampers. She is between newborn and three months clothing. The newborns are too short and the three months are too long so we dress her in clothes that are 0 - 3 months.

This week...
• A couple of nights this week,  she fought going to bed which was very frustrating for me. Finally I had to pass her off to her dad and I went to bed.

• She loves sleeping on our chest.

• We had our first car ride together (no one else). I was nervous at first since no one would be sitting in the back with her. I took her to meet my co-workers. She slept the entire time and was wide awake for two hours when we got home.

• She has found my hair and likes to hold onto it. She doesn't pull on it yet but I know it is coming.

• Doing much much better at tummy time. She holds her head up more and is slowly pushing up with her arms more. I think she kicks more than working on holding up her head.

• She is a water baby! She doesn't mind bath time which is a relief...I don't know what I would do if she screamed the entire time. I am glad she likes water since we go to the lake a lot during the summer.

Now some random pictures!
This one cracks me up because she is just about out of it! I was talking to her and the next thing I know she is fast asleep.

I decided to stay with "Keeping Up with Kimber" post title. Boring I know, but I am lacking the creative juice right now.

2011 Christmas - Kimber's First

Christmas was very exciting but busy at the same time. We celebrated with James' family on Christmas Eve by going to church and then going to the Haik's family gathering. On Christmas morning we woke up at 6:00 am fed her, loaded the car and headed to my parents in Wellington. Yes, it was a three hour but she did so good. We were in the last 45 minutes of our drive before we had to stop to nurse and change her diaper. Of course, we had to stop on the side of the road in this old run down service station parking lot...we had to change the dirty diaper on the front center console!

I did not get as many pictures as I hoped for but I was exhausted and my brain was barely functioning. We had so much fun with Kimber and grateful to spend time with all of our family! She was only two and half weeks old and was spoiled rotten!

Life is such a gift....Kimber's Birth

On Friday, December 9, 2011 we headed to the hospital at 6:45 am to start the process of meeting our little girl. I was scheduled to be induced at 7:00 am but after waiting 3 hours in the waiting room we did not get to our room until 10:00 am. Finally at noon my doctor came in to break my water and start me on pitocin. They kept telling us that it normally takes about 12 hours after being induced before true labor starts. Well, I was definitely not normal! At 7:55 pm Kimber Diane Haik entered this world! I only pushed for about 40 minutes at the most and I even had to wait for my doctor to finish delivering another baby. (not fun!)

Kimber's 2 Week Update

I can't believe it, my precious girl is two weeks old. Where is time going already! We have been busy getting ready for Christmas, staying awake more during the day and working on tummy time.

  • Monday night she lost her umbillical cord. This was a huge stress reliever for me because it made me so nervous. I had James call the doctor to ask how we care for her belly bottom and when to start giving her a normal bath. Even though she lost it we still have to wait for it to dry out and heal completely.
  •  Tuesday we started tummy time. It is a slow process. When we have her on our chest she will hold her head up all day long but as soon as she is on her tummy time mat she just wants to lay there. I get on the floor in front of her and talk to her but she just doesn't like it. She did get better throughout the week.
  • For some reason, we have been changing diapers a little too early and had some not so good situations for James and I. We just laugh at ourselves! Welcome to parenthood! I even had a "situation" all over me after giving her a bath!
  • We are working on staying up more during the day because two nights this week she kept me up for 3 hours way too early in the morning.
  • My favorite moment, is when I am rocking her and she is almost asleep, she gives me the biggest smile! (I think she is dreaming)
  • I love the little noises she makes while sleeping.
  • Friday afternoon, we went to the mall so she could have her picture taken with Santa. I wasn't going to but I knew later down the road I would be mad at myself for not getting a picture since it is her first Christmas.
Now time for all the pictures!

My favorites! (she makes this face a lot)

A bow holder!! A friend of mine from my hometown sent this....I love it and I don't have to worry about making one now!
One of my best friends from college sent Kimber a 1st Christmas ornament. I was so mad at the postman when he delivered it. He stood about 5 feet or more from my front door and threw it so hard it bounced off the door. Did he not see FRAGILE stamped all over it.
